On Fashion Friday we deliver a variety of content focused around what caught our attention while out shopping for clients throughout the week. As part of the Art of Style family if there are topics, styles or trends you are ever curious about please reach out as we would love to focus a Fashion Friday around your questions! This week we talk VELVET!
Why Velvet….
Do not get us wrong we love a sexy silk top paired back with a chunky knit boyfriend cardi and THAT perfect pair of denim, but when it comes to fall fabrics, velvet is really making our hearts go boom boom this year. Why? It is sexy to the touch. Not simply to the gentleman friend, but #treatyourself. It feels great to wear velvet! When constructed properly (shop below) the fabric is actually quite forgiving and equally flattering. It is thick enough to cover all the right places and skim in all the right ways. Velvet really is ultra versatile. Paired back with the proper pieces you can take that velvet piece to the office or to a date night.
What to watch out for….
Velvet can look cheap real quick. Especially a fabric that is so on trend, it is being produced by fast fashion brands in a MAJOR way. It is hard to put into words the best way to shop for velvet, but use your #ClassRaidar and channel your inner AoS stylist. When all else fails 911 us with a pictures. If the velvet looks like it could also be chopped & screwed into a Christmas stocking, you do not need it. If the velvet is extra sheen, like we are talking those candy shades of velvet, nope, can you draw in the clothing and leave extremely visible patterns on, walk away. When you peak at the pieces below, notice the #AoSapproved velvet textures and shades we gravitate towards. The goal when investing in something like this is to do it right so when the trend dies and comes back around your piece will still be in style. Fashion is full circle people.
